The Relic

‘a strange artifact with questionable origins’

We were commissioned in 2022 by Aqualis London, a luxury niche perfumier, to design a bottle that takes its inspiration from natural shapes and geometries. In particular those found in and around the sea. Our design is based on the idea that if it was to be unearthed, as relic or fossil, you may question its origin and purpose. Part animal, part fruit, or potentially an ancient civilisation's utensil appropriated from any of these. An object of ambiguity, both masculine and feminine. Tactile and ergonomic in the palm of one’s hand as if holding a fruit; or shell against your ear. As with many of our architectural projects it plays a delicate game with equilibrium. The overall design is elegant; giving a nudge to the art nouveau era of the early 20th century, differentiating itself as a somewhat counter statement to the minimalistic designs famously introduced by Coco Chanel with her classic Chanel No.5 bottle.
